Photo a Day Challenge for May

They’re doing it, so I am doing it!

Last month, while I was gone and away on my trip overseas, some interesting little project started:

The Photo A Day Challenge (April).

And although it says on the poster that “Fat Mum Slim” came up with the idea, I cannot seem to find this mysterious slim overweight mother on the World Wide Web. So I am referring to Ginger and Liz, who have both taken part in this challenge last month and on whose pages I have discovered that there is a spectacular round 2…

The Photo A Day May Challenge!

So even though I do not have the slightest idea of how exactly this works (again, a shout-out to Fat Mum Slim or anyone else, help pleeease!), I am planning on being an active member of the community of daily photographers showing their lives in journal-like fashion through the eyes of any type of camera.

(And, for the sake of it, I will for now ignore the striking resemblance of name to my very own blog A Picture Every Day.)

If one of those three? two bloggers above could maybe help me out as to what exactly is expected in the challenge, I’d be more than grateful! Do you post a picture every day? Do you post 7 pictures a week? Do you post 31 pictures a month? And do you write much about your pictures? Do they have to be recent or from the same day?

I am leaving those questions up to interpretation right now. Below please find my very first shots of the past three days of May:

Peace:

Never grew up around it. Never really lived close to it. But for some reason this calm sea always makes me wind down. I love the ocean. I love how it can change its mood suddenly, how it can become a stormy place but then a peaceful haven. It makes me feel that there is so much more out there, so many more opportunities to pursue. And it also makes me think about its strong history. How many people have sailed on it centuries ago.

Skyline:

Of course it had to be New York. The city I’ve been in for two long years. Manhattan view from the Brooklyn Bridge.

Something you wore today:

Only two weeks ago I bought two pairs of comfy jeans from American Eagle. They are to date the only ones that really fit and which I hope to spend a long time with! And the awesome part about it: They are really inexpensive compared to Levis or the GAP.

  1. hey laura! it’s so cool you’re gonna join in!!

i’ve got a little info for you. 🙂 the website of the creator is this: http://www.fatmumslim.com.au/ as for the rules, it’s pretty much what you want to do. it started as an instagram (iPhone app) challenge, so a lot of people are snapping their photos with their phones & only posting it on instagram daily. i am using my iPhone & instagram, but i am also posting my picture every day on my blog. and i decided to write a little, whatever comes to me from my picture. last month i posted my pics daily on instagram & then once a week on my blog. i decided to do it daily this month, just to change it up a little. 🙂

of course the whole idea is to only follow the photo challenges. use your phone, your camera, whatever… and decide how you want to post it. what you’ve done in this post is just great! just let the challenge inspire you. make sense? if you’ve got any more questions, just let me know! happy snapping!!

    xx

    • Thanks so much Liz! I have instagram and have actually seen some people post aphotoaday stuff on it, but it didn’t really follow our list, so I was a teeny bit confused. I also think I’ll be using more of my canon during this month, as the pictures are just phenomenal. But yeah, the iPhone comes in handy, I agree! Can’t wait to see what you will come up with for this month!

  2. Hey Laura! Here is the creators link…

I’m so glad you are playing it’s a lot of fun. I post my pictures daily in an effort to blog more. Liz posts hers weekly, because that’s what works for her. I think it’s up to you really!

Love your photos so far.. American Eagle jeans are great! I have a few pairs also and love them 🙂 I love your skyline photo, it’s really creative!

    • Thank you! I love your pictures, too! And thanks for the link, now everything makes more sense! I don’t know if I ll have the time to post daily, maybe I’ll do it bi-weekly. Cannot wait to see what you guys will come up with! hehe

  3. I find the ocean peaceful also. Kind of miss living near one. I’m actually wearing my American Eagle jeans today. One of the few that have held up.

    • I just discovered their jeans and I already like them very much. I work right next to their store, too, so it’s hard to pass it without popping in. Right now their highlight are colored jeans — GAAAH!

      • Haha yeah I can see how that could happen. Not sure how I feel about the colored jeans. I think I’m mostly biased because they’re skinny leg and I’m not a fan of those lol. The ones I have from there are the favorite boyfriend jeans which are more for comfort than figure flattery. I think I would like the artist ones. Unfortunately last time I ordered ones I liked off their site they were all too long and when I tried different sizes in store the only ones I liked the fit of were the ones I got. Most of my jeans lately have either ripped or look like they will have holes soon, so I am going to have to find some here.

  4. Hi there great blog! Does running a blog like this require a massive
amount work? I’ve very little understanding of programming however I had
been hoping to start my own blog soon. Anyways, should you have
any recommendations or techniques for new blog owners
please share. I understand this is off subject nevertheless I just had to ask.
    Cheers!
